Teeth extractions are not an easy procedure. Some people are scared by it, and rightfully so. Still, performed in a clinic of a high standard, even tooth extraction can be simple and easy.
Surgery and extractions
The causes for surgery and extractions can be:
- Ruined teeth – when complete decay caused by severe caries can no longer be repaired with fillings or root canal treatments. A rotten tooth can affect its adjacent teeth, and cause infection in the mouth area.
- Gum inflammation – when a gum inflammation spreads throughout the mouth and causes damage to the teeth roots, until they are disconnected and lose their grasp on the gum.
- Unaligned teeth – when a tooth does not grow as it should, thus disturbing the patient’s bite.
- Supernumerary teeth – when a tooth grows out of place, impeding the eruption of normal teeth.
Hyperdontia
When a tooth appears in addition to the regular number of teeth, and does not erupt into the oral cavity. This normally occurs in wisdom teeth that erupt at an older age, causing pain and infection in the area of the tooth.
In hyperdontia, an extraction by dental surgery cannot be avoided.
Types of extractions
- A simple extraction is a simple procedure, in which the dentist anesthetizes the tooth area and extracts it using dedicated devices. The healing after this type of extraction normally ends without complication.
- Dental surgery extraction – when the tooth did not erupt in the oral cavity, a dental surgery extraction is required. This procedure should be performed by a specialist.
